Episode 2 Who Am I and Why Am I Vegan
Episode 2: Who am I? And why am I vegan? And plant-based?
I'm a jack of all trades and a master of none. Here's my
story.
I was in the Air Force for four years, creating maps for air
operations. While in college, I was a museum carpenter. In San Diego, I was a
Mercy Hospital maintenance worker. After my degree in information science, I
was a systems analyst. I've always been a handyman. I just love to fix and
assemble things.
I saw an advertisement as a truck driver and I pulled 48 and
53 trailers. The last job I had was as a package distributor at Amazon.com. At
Amazon, working those 10 to 12-hour shifts. I needed more energy. Just eating
the standard American food lunches was not working.
My sister-in-law mentioned juicing. Vegetable juicing. I
found on Prime a movie that showed my vegan journey. The movie is called Fat,
Sick, and Nearly Dead. I purchased a Breville juicer. Later, I purchased two
books from Joe Juice Diet and another one from 101 Juicing Recipes. After a few
months of juicing, I still wasn't very satisfied. I needed more energy.
I didn't know how to get it. I was watching a movie called Vegugate on Amazon Prime; it's about three New Yorkers who love meat and cheese and are willing for six weeks to live and eat only Vegan foods. This
made such a huge impact and started my Vegan lifestyle. At 63, I became a
vegan, and I'm still one at 71.
What are the benefits of being a vegan? More energy, no constipation. I lost 40
pounds in six months. I'm not diabetic. I can taste my food. I have no age
spots. I used to have these red spots all over. They're gone. I'm protected from Parkinson's. It helps my
arthritis. It improves my heart health. It reduces the risk of cancer. I have
better weight control and stronger nails and my hair.
The environmental benefits that I don't notice are water
conservation, keeping soil clean, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and
preventing habitat and species extinction due to hunting. I've been very happy
being a Vegan. It's not been easy. This podcast that you'll be listening to is
my story of how I became Vegan.
And then later on, I'll be describing to you all the
fabulous things I've learned for example cooking experiences. Come listen to
episode three, Veganism and dietary labels. We look forward to seeing you
there. Thank you very much for listening
and we'll see you soon in our next podcast. Thank you for listening to us.

In our next episode, "Veganism and Dietary Labels," we'll delve deeper into the nuances of this lifestyle choice.
