Episode 6 My Past Exercises and Yoga

Welcome to Healthy Vegan Living Podcast, I'm your host, and my name is Gary. Welcome to episode 6, my past and current exercises.

I've always exercised. In college, I played handball. When I was going into military service, I hiked Mount Lemmon in Tucson, AZ. During my schooling in college, I played tennis, and I hiked some more.

When I was working professionally, I cycled to work, and I used the gym circuit training. Later in life, I decided to do some self-defense courses and I took Taekwondo in four years. My wife and I received our black belts.

Time went along and a long period and I just walked my dogs. I stayed away from all the activities. I retired at 65 and I decided I've always wanted to do yoga. The first yoga I tried was called Burkham yoga.

I did Burkhan for over six months and it's coined as hot yoga. The rooms are at 105°F at 40% humidity. There are 26 basic postures. Often repeated. You're expected when you go to class to know the postures and eat. A teacher only gives you a small hint of what each posture is going to be. Burkham Yoga focuses on proper alignment. It also is a 90-minute class. I'm going to show you what the pros are. Burkham works every muscle and joint in the body. You can burn between 600 and 900 calories per class. It Revs up your metabolism. It detoxes the skin by removing impurities, leaving glowing skin. It relieves tension. The exercise, along with deep breathing and meditation flexibility. The heat loosens the body for deeper stretches. Medical improvements. Burkham improves glucose tolerance and helps cholesterol, bone density, and cardiovascular disease. It Improves flexibility, depression, and stress. I did that for like 6 months but there was quite a long distance from where I live, so I moved to a local studio and did

Ashtanga yoga. It had no music. The pace is much slower, and I was learning the 8 limb path, linking the breath to movement. Ashtanga Yoga is a physically demanding sequence of postures. It starts with five sun salutations. It wasn't what I was looking for, so I missed my Burkham yoga.

Five minutes from my home is a place called Yoga 6 and it has several hot yoga classes. Its difference was it has room temperatures from 80° to 100°. The class is limited to 50 minutes. It has music. Each class improves the flexibility. Low back, shoulders, and arm strings. In each class, you can burn up to 60 to 500 calories. It improves bone density of the neck, hips, and lower back. Of course, it reduced my stress. It eased my depression and improved my mood. It helps my skin by circulating oxygen to my skin had help. My cardiovascular had helped my heart, my lungs, and my muscles. If you were to equate the hot yoga class to walking, it would be a brisk walk for 3 1/2 hours. I know that when I finish this class, I will be much more relaxed.

It's like all the troubles of my life have just vanished and I can live and enjoy my life. I think you. Need to think about that. If you're part of any lifestyle, we follow the vegan living lifestyle. Where I exercise and I try to eat well. Often, my wife accompanies me during my walks, or she doesn't do that for yoga, but she's working to get herself into chair yoga. And that way we can have a good relationship at home. You must have sort of a balance. Yes, you can conquer you’re eating.

That's a big portion of what you do. People eat. But you also must combine it with exercise. You can't use exercise to lose weight. It just doesn't work. There are thousands of plants out there that tell you. To do their circuit training or whatever to lose weight, you will lose some weight because you'll be burning some fat, but in the end, it's what you put in your body that controls your weight. A combination of good exercise and. Eating habits vegan eating habits will make you healthier and you can easily live another 10 or 15 more years and your body will thank you for it.

Thank you for listening and we'll look forward to seeing you in our next podcast.
